New Giant Pandas An An and Ke Ke Grace Hong Kong

September 26, 2024, the city of Hong Kong was abuzz with excitement as two new residents, pandas An An and Ke Ke, made their historic arrival from mainland China. This momentous occasion marked the beginning of a new chapter in the city's rich history of panda conservation and cross-cultural exchange. An An and Ke Ke are expected to meet the public in mid December. In addition, Hong Kong will hold a city wide naming campaign for giant pandas.

An An, male, born in June 2019, has a round head, long body, agile movements, is intelligent and active, and has an outgoing and lively personality. Ke Ke, female, born in June 2019, has a gentle temperament, is active and good at climbing, and is a typical "tomboy" in the giant panda world.

A Dream Come True

For months, anticipation had been building among Hong Kong residents and panda enthusiasts worldwide as news of the impending arrival of An An and Ke Ke circulated. The pandas, carefully selected by the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda, were set to become the latest additions to the esteemed panda program at Ocean Park, one of Hong Kong's premier attractions and a leading center for wildlife conservation.
