The Story About Panda Fubao

Fubao, a female giant panda, was born on July 20, 2020, at Everland in Yongin City, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. Fubao is the first female cub born through natural mating between the giant pandas "Aibo" (known as Huani in China) and "Lebao" (known as Yuanxin in China) who reside in South Korea. Her name, "Fubao," was selected through a public naming contest held by Everland in South Korea, symbolizing the bringing of happiness and treasure.

Since her birth, Fubao has been the center of attention, with her growth process being fully documented and reported. From her initial delicate and pink appearance to her current lively and adorable demeanor, Fubao has grown up healthily and happily, becoming the "national giant panda" in the hearts of South Korean people.

Fubao enjoys immense popularity in South Korea, with multiple cute nicknames such as "Yongin's Fu," "Princess Fu," and "Fu Dun Dun." Her videos have garnered hundreds of millions of views on social media, making her a "big star" in South Korea.

On the morning of April 3, 2024, amidst the rain, Fubao was bid farewell by numerous South Korean citizens as she was transported by a special car from Everland to Incheon International Airport, and then transferred to a chartered flight provided by the Chinese side to fly back to China. At 19:14 Beijing time, Fubao safely arrived at Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport in Sichuan.

Currently, Fubao resides at the Wolong Shenshuping Base of the China Research and Conservation Center for the Giant Panda. The base provides superior living conditions and professional care management for giant pandas. The panda enclosures at the base are divided into indoor and outdoor areas, offering ample activity space and a comfortable resting environment for Fubao. On August 30, 2024, the China Research and Conservation Center for the Giant Panda announced that Fubao had entered a state of pseudopregnancy. Pseudopregnancy is a phenomenon where a giant panda exhibits behaviors and physiological changes similar to pregnancy after estrus but without successful conception. During this pseudopregnancy period, Fubao may show signs of decreased appetite, reduced activity levels, and increased rest time. The care team has closely monitored Fubao's health status and taken corresponding health management measures to help her smoothly navigate through the pseudopregnancy period.
