Share
Lunlun, a female giant panda with lineage number 452, originally named Huahua, was adopted by Taiwanese celebrity Su Huilun and renamed Lunlun. She was born on August 25, 1997, at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. Her father is Lin Nan, a giant panda, and her mother is Bing Bing, a giant panda. On November 5, 1999, Lun Lun and male giant panda Yang Yang went to the Atlanta Zoo in the United States, embarking on a 25 year journey there. At the Atlanta Zoo, Lun Lun and Yang Yang became a celebrity couple and were deeply loved by tourists. Lunlun and Yangyang are the panda families that are known in the news as poor eating American zoos and are loved by tourists and fans. In order to solve the financial crisis of the zoo and keep the giant pandas, many residents in Atlanta voluntarily plant bamboo for Lunlun and Yangyang's panda families. The Atlanta Zoo has set up a small team to search for and purchase bamboo that suits the taste of these giant pandas near Atlanta. Multiple offspring were successfully born through natural mating and artificial insemination. These cubs include: Meilan, Xilan, Baolan, Meilun and Meihuan, Yalun and Xilun.
On May 18, 2024, according to the website of The Washington Post, Atlanta Zoo announced on the 17th that it would send Lun Lun back to China by the end of 2024.
