Share
Giant panda Mei Xiang, female, pedigree number: 473, was born on July 22, 1998 at the Walnut Ping Wild Training Base of the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda in Wolong, Sichuan. Her mother is the giant panda "Xue Xue". In December 2000, Mei Xiang and the male giant panda "Tian Tian" went to the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. as "Ambassadors of Sino-US Friendship", starting a 20-year journey in the United States. During their stay in the United States, Mei Xiang and Tian Tian were called "Washington's most popular couple" and were deeply loved by local people. Between 2005 and 2015, Mei Xiang gave birth to 6 cubs, 3 of which survived and grew up healthily. These cubs returned to China at the age of 4.
On the evening of November 8, 2023, Mei Xiang, Tian Tian and the cub "Little Miracle" set off from the National Zoo in Washington, D.C., and arrived safely in Chengdu on November 9. After completing their quarantine at the Shenshuping Base, Mei Xiang and Tian Tian were moved into the health care area (not the visiting area) of the Dujiangyan Base, while "Little Miracle" was raised at the Wolong Shenshuping Base and is in good condition.
