The story of panda Tiantian
Share
Giant panda Tiantian, male, pedigree number: 466, was born on August 27, 1997 at the Wolong Hetaoping Base of the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda. On December 6, 2000, Tiantian and the female giant panda "Mei Xiang" went to the National Zoo in Washington, D.C., as "China-U.S. Friendship Ambassadors", starting a 23-year journey to the United States. During his stay in Washington, although Tiantian did not give birth to cubs directly, as the partner of "Mei Xiang", he witnessed the process of "Mei Xiang" giving birth to and successfully raising multiple cubs.
On November 8, 2023, Tiantian, Mei Xiang and their cub "Little Miracle" took a special plane from the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. to return to China, and arrived safely at Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport in Sichuan on November 9. After returning to China, Tiantian and Mei Xiang were arranged to be quarantined and nursed in the health care area (non-visiting area) of the Dujiangyan Base of the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda. At present, the two giant pandas have adapted to life in China and are in good condition.
