The story of panda Yangyang
Panda Yangyang, male, pedigree number: 461, nicknamed Jiujiu, was later adopted by a Dutch environmental protection organization and renamed Yangyang. He was born on September 9, 1997 at the Chengdu Research Base of Panda Breeding. His father is Zhenzhen, a wild rescued panda, and his mother is Yaya, known as the "Asian Games Princess". On November 5, 1999, Yangyang and female panda Lunlun went to the Atlanta Zoo in the United States and began their decades-long sojourn. Although Yangyang suffered from chronic diarrhea (commonly known as "stiff cat disease") during his stay at the Atlanta Zoo, he successfully recovered with the help of Chinese experts through measures such as controlling the temperature of the breeding environment and continued to participate in the breeding program. During their stay at the Atlanta Zoo, Yangyang and Lunlun successfully gave birth to several cubs through natural mating and artificial insemination, including Meilan, Xilan, Baolan, Meilun, Meihuan, Yalun and Xilun.
In October 2024, Yangyang will return to China.
